"Bullies" is a TV drama about the behind-the-scenes events of the Philadelphia Flyers during their heyday in the 1970s.
The team, despised outside of Philadelphia, was known as the Broad Street Bullies because of their penchant for fighting and physical play. But this TV series is more about the players' off-ice lives and their not-so-smooth development into Stanley Cup champions in 1974 and 1975. The series is expected to be ready in 2025.
Co-creators Jeff Hare and Sam Carchidi will take you on an amazing, heartfelt ride, one in which you will experience some never-before-told tales. Some events will make you laugh. Some will make you cry, especially when an adult abuses one of the future stars as a youngster. At the core of this story is the everlasting bond between the winning-starved fans and the upstart Flyers, a team that was scorned by the NHL.
It's time to fall in love with the Bad Guys.
Jeff Hare, a Roxborough native who was a wide-eyed 9-year-old kid when the Flyers won their first Stanley Cup, has been writing and directing movies and television for over 25 years. His work is extremely diverse, and has been seen on movie screens worldwide, and on TV networks like Fox, American Movie Classics, Lifetime, LMN, SKY TV, UP-TV, Fox Sports, FX, MY NETWORK, Discovery, and the Cartoon Network.
Sam Carchidi, who as a teenager paid a scalper a then-outrageous $40 to watch the Flyers beat Boston in the Stanley Cup-clinching Game 6, wrote for the Philadelphia Inquirer for 46 years. He covered the Flyers during a lot of that time, and now writes columns for Philly Hockey Now. He has written six books, including three on the Flyers: “If These Walls Could Talk,” with Lou Nolan; “The Big 50,” with Wayne Fish; and the soon-to-be-released “Bullies,” with Jeff Hare.
Susan Blanchard Ryan is an award-winning actress, writer, and producer. She was born a rink rat and was raised in the hockey business. Her work in film, television, and sports has taken her around the world but her favorite place to be is still a hockey rink. Connections in the hockey world led to her joining Sam Carchidi and Jeff Hare on the BROAD STREET BULLIES team, and she can't wait to help bring this incredible tale to audiences across the globe. Her other projects in development include an action adventure TV series (PING), a period drama set in French wine country (LA VEUVE CLIQUOT), and a zombie hockey movie (ZR). She is based in New York City, but she's a Flyers fan for life.
